The Parents of All Joy & Peace

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

I'd rather in the house of God
the meanest office take
than in the tents of wickedness
my lordly dwelling make.
 —Psalm 84:11
Suggested tune: Ich Singe Dir (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
—Romans 15:13

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
They who believe have found the short, sure road to joy and peace, because their relations are set right with God. For these relations are, like a skeleton at the feast in all earthly joy, the disturbing elements in all earthly tranquillity: we can never, down to the roots of our being, be at rest until we are quite sure that there is nothing wrong between us and God. And so believing, we come to that root of all real gladness which is anything better than a crackling of thorns under a pot, and to that beginning of all true tranquillity. Joy in the Lord and peace with God are the parents of all joy and peace that are worthy of the name.
 —Alexander Maclaren

TODAY'S PRAYER
Grant me such trust in your Son, O God, that I may know true joy and peace in believing in his Name...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
