Strengthen the Weak Hands

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

I waited patiently for God,
that he would hear my prayer;
and he bent down to where I was,
and listened to me there.
 —Psalm 40:1
Suggested tune: Winchester Old (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.
—Isaiah 35:3

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Weakness and discouragements are the effects of unbelief. These God would have removed, with an expectation of the coming of the Lord to the soul, according to the promise. And this, I say, belongs to the waiting of the soul in the condition described. Such a soul expects and hopes that God will in his season manifest himself and his love to it, and give it an experiential sense of a blessed interest in forgiveness. And the accomplishment of this purpose and promise of God, it looks out after continually. It will not despond and be heartless, but stir up and strengthen itself unto a full expectation to have the desires of his soul satisfied in due time.
—John Owen (alt.)

TODAY'S PRAYER
When I am afraid, Lord, grant strength to my body and patient assurance to my soul...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
