Light Shines in the Darkness

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Let seas and all their fullness roar;
the world, and dwellers there;
let floods applaud, and let the hills
together joy declare
before the Lord; because he comes,
to judge the earth comes he:
He'll judge the world with righteousness,
his folk with equity.
 —Psalm 98:7-9
Suggested tune: Ellacombe (CMD)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
—John 1:5

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
God in human nature is a lamp of living light, and “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” The darkness must ever more flee the light, as the night flees day. Thus the soul learns to know God’s will.
—Meister Eckhart

TODAY'S PRAYER
Shine on my path, O God, that I may know your will; and shine in my heart that I may follow it....

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
