Will the Law Fulfill Love?

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Give ear, thou Judge of all the earth,
and listen when I pray;
nor from thy humble servant turn
thy glorious face away.
 —Psalm 55:1
Suggested tune: Manoah (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
—Romans 13:10

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Love will fulfill the law, but will the law fulfill love? No, verily. If a person keeps the law, I know they are a lover of their neighbor. But they are not a lover because they keep the law, they keep the law because they are a lover.
—George MacDonald, Unspoken Sermons

TODAY'S PRAYER
God, forbid that I should think that I am loving because I fulfill the law. But put love in my heart, that I may desire to fulfill your law...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
