This Bread Always

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

With off'rings let God's altar flame,
as we our grateful thanks express,
and with loud joy his holy Name
for all his acts of wonder bless.
 —Psalm 107:21
Suggested tune: Duke Street (LM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
—John 6:32-34

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Christ is teaching us that the Spirit is given to the children of God for the express purpose of sustaining and satisfying life. Our incessant demands for spiritual food are supplied by the indwelling Spirit. Our daily prayer should be, “Lord, give us this bread always.” The answer from heaven is, “Everyone who asks receives” [Matt. 7:8].
—T.M. Marshall

TODAY'S PRAYER
Lord, I am in constant need of your sustaining love. In Christ may I ever receive life from you...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
