The New-Creating Work of God

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

O let not the oppressed return
all clothed with bitter shame;
but let the helpless and the poor
forever praise thy Name.
Arise, O God, on our behalf,
thy cause and ours maintain;
remember how insulting fools
each day thy Name profane!
 —Psalm 74:21-22
Suggested tune: Vox Dilecti (CMD)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.
—Isaiah 65:17

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
We can ever rejoice in the new-creating work of God while we are rejoicing in our own works, trusting in ourselves, and boasting our own merits. It is a sign of grace when a person is sick of self and is in harmony with God. When we leave off rejoicing in what we can do and come to rejoice in what God has done and is doing, then a change has been worked in us!
—Charles Spurgeon (alt.)

TODAY'S PRAYER
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit...
—Psalm 51:10-12

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
