The Lord Is on Thy Side

Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
Why hast thou cast us off, O God?
wilt thou no more return?
O why against thy chosen flock
does thy fierce anger burn?
Think on thy ancient purchase—
the land that is thy own,
by thee redeemed; and Zion's mount
where once thy glory shone.
 —Psalm 74:1-2
Suggested tune: St. Louis (

You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.
—Luke 21:16-19
Be still, my soul! The Lord is on thy side;
bear patiently the cross of grief and pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide—
In every change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul! Thy best, thy heavenly Friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul! Thy God doth undertake
to guide the future, as he has the past:
Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake,
all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul! The waves and winds still know
his voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
—anon. German, Jane Borthwick, trans.
Fortify me with the grace of your Holy Spirit, O God, and give your peace to my soul, that I may be free from all needless anxiety, solicitude, and worry. Help me to desire always that which is pleasing and acceptable to you, so that your will may be my will.
—Francis Xavier Cabrini
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
