The Protection of Omnipotence

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Teach us, Lord, the uncertain sum
of our short days to mind,
that to true wisdom all our hearts
may ever be inclined.
 —Psalm 90:12
Suggested tune: Crimond (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
If God is for us, who is against us?
—Romans 8:31

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
No opposition can prevail against us, if God be for us. It is impossible to deny, or even to doubt this truth, upon the principles of reason. For who, or what, can injure those who are under the protection of Omnipotence? And yet it is not always easy to maintain the persuasion of it in the mind, and to abide in the exercise of faith, when, to an eye of sense, all things seem against us. But even if we believe not, he continues faithful, and will not forsake those whom he once enables to put their trust in him.
—John Newton

TODAY'S PRAYER
Give me the blessèd assurance, Lord, not so much that you are mine, but that I am yours, and that nothing can come between me and your love for me...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
