The Author of Salvation

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

God is our refuge and our strength,
in straits a present aid;
therefore, although the earth remove,
we will not be afraid.
Though hills into the seas be cast;
though foaming waters roar—
yea, though the mighty billows shake
the mountains on the shore.
 —Psalm 46:1-3
Suggested tune: Ellacombe (CMD)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God
—Ephesians 2:8

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
When, on the part of humanity, the act of receiving salvation is made to consist in faith alone, all other means, on which men are accustomed to rely, are discarded. Faith, then, brings a person empty to God, that they may be filled with the blessings of Christ. And so Paul adds, not of yourselves; that claiming nothing for themselves, they may acknowledge God alone as the author of their salvation.
—John Calvin

TODAY'S PRAYER
O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
