Nearer & Nearer

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Thrice happy they, whose choice has thee
their sure protection made;
who long to tread the sacred ways
that to thy dwelling lead!
 —Psalm 84:5
Suggested tune: Dundee (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
For there shall be a day when sentinels will call in the hill country of Ephraim: “Come, let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.”
—Jeremiah 31:6

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Blessed are those whose hearts are being drawn nearer and nearer to the Most High. Naturally, we struggle back to carnal things—we get taken up with business, with family, and with a thousand groveling cares—but when the Holy Spirit draws, it is upward and heavenward! He draws us to repentance, to faith, to love, to holiness, and to continuance in well-doing. Oh, that we may now feel God drawing us towards him who is our All in All!
—Charles Spurgeon (alt.)

TODAY'S PRAYER
Draw me, Lord, lest these earthly cares consume my driven soul. Move me Lord; as a coursing river turns within your hands...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
