Keep the Faith

Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
O God, our fainting cause sustain,
for human help is always vain.
Fresh strength and courage you bestow,
thus we defeat our fiercest foe.
 —Psalm 60:11-12
Suggested tune: Abends (LM)

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
—2 Timothy 4:7
Beloved Friends, we cannot be ready to die unless we have been taught how to live! We who are active, and have talents to use, and health and strength with which to use those talents, must go on with "the greatest fight in the world" till we can say, "I have fought the good fight." We must go on running the Christian race till we can say, "I have finished my course." We must go on guarding the Word of God and holding fast the Truth of God, till we can say, "I have kept the faith." It will be hard work to lie dying if we have been unfaithful. God's infinite mercy may come in and forgive and help us, and we may be "saved, but only as through fire" (1 Cor. 3:15), but if we would look forward to death with perfect readiness, having no dread or fear about it—but being as ready to die as we are to go to our beds tonight—then we must be kept faithful to God by his Almighty Grace. The faith must keep us, and we must keep the faith.
—Charles Spurgeon
Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do your will...
—Ignatius of Loyola
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
