Firm to the End

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

He set his saints from bondage free,
and then established his decree
forever to remain the same—
wonderfully holy is his Name!
 —Psalm 111:9
Suggested tune: Duke Street (LM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
We have become partners of Christ, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end.
—Hebrews 3:14

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
A gap once made in the conscience grows wider and wider every day. The first decline is the cause of all the rest. Evil is best stopped in the beginning. When first you begin to be careless, mindless of God, and neglectful of communion with him, then take heed: It is easier to crush the egg than kill the serpent. To keep the house in constant repair is to prevent the ruin and fall of it; that is how to keep your soul in constant repair. Take notice of the first swerving, lest it carry you further and further.
—Thomas Manton (alt.)

TODAY'S PRAYER
O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
be Thou forever near me, my Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my Guide.
—John Bode

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
