Train Yourself in Godliness

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Before my race is run, my strength
through God's fierce wrath decays;
he has, when all my wishes bloomed,
cut short my hopeful days.
Lord, end not thou my life
when half is scarcely past:
Thy years, from worldly changes free,
to endless ages last.
 —Psalm 102:23-24
Suggested tune: St. Louis (86.86.66.86)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Train yourself in godliness.
—1 Timothy 4:7b

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
No heart will ever rise to genuine prayer that does not at the same time long for holiness.
 —John Calvin, Institutes 3.20.10

TODAY'S PRAYER
Help me not only to seek your will, O God, but to long to seek your will...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
