Remember Your Leaders

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

O that my people wisely would
my just commandments heed!
And Isr'el in my righteous ways
with pious care proceed!
 —Psalm 81:13
Suggested tune: Morning Song (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
—Hebrews 13:7

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
As to the completing of the exemplary life of ordained ministers, it is required that the principle of it be that of the life of Christ in them, that when they have taught others they be not themselves “a cast-away.” So is their general course and the end of their faith to be eyed. And their infirmities, whilst really such, and appearing through the manifold temptations whereunto they are in these days exposed, or imposed on them through the zeal of their adversaries that contend against them, are to be covered with love. And this people will do when they conscientiously consider that even the lives of their teachers are an ordinance of God, for their relief under temptations, and provocation unto holiness, zeal, meekness, and self-denial.
—John Owen

TODAY'S PRAYER
Almighty God, the Giver of all good gifts, by your Holy Spirit you give order to your church. Look now with mercy on your servants who have been called to be leaders of your people: maintain them in truth and renew them in holiness, that by word and good example they may faithfully serve you to the glory of your Name and the benefit of your church; through the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ...
—Church of England (alt.)

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
