More Solid Wisdom

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Beset with threat'ning dangers round,
unmoved the righteous hold their ground;
the sweet remembrance of the just
shall flourish when they sleep in dust—
ill tidings never can surprise
the heart, that fixed on God relies.
On safety's rock they sit, and see
the shipwreck of their enemy.
 —Psalm 112:6-8
Suggested tune: Sweet Hour (LMD)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us,' when, in fact, the false pen of the scribes has made it into a lie? The wise shall be put to shame, they shall be dismayed and taken; since they have rejected the word of the Lord, what wisdom is in them?
—Jeremiah 8:8-9

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The more grace of Christ, the more clearness of saving knowledge and sound reason; grace makes more solid wisdom than art or learning
—Samuel Rutherford

TODAY'S PRAYER
Grant me the grace of understanding your word, O God; and if I understand not, yet grant me, by grace, the fear that is the beginning of wisdom...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
