A Healthy Condition

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Why, O Lord, does evil flourish?
How long will the wicked boast?
Words of arrogance they pour out,
jubilant, that hateful host.
 —Psalm 94:3-4
Suggested tune: The Servant Song (87.87)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Afterward the Israelites shall return and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; they shall come to fear the Lord and to his goodness in the latter days.
—Hosea 3:5

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
While a time of sorrow and suffering is often, to the Christian, a time of confidence in his God; on the other hand, a time of prosperity is, to the wise, a time of holy fear. Not that they are ungrateful, but they are afraid that they may be. Not that they are proud—they are truly humble because they fear becoming proud. Not that they love the things of the world, but they are afraid lest his heart should get away from God—and so they fear because of all the Lord's goodness to them. May the Lord always keep us in that state of fear, for it is a healthy condition for us to be in!
 —Charles Spurgeon

TODAY'S PRAYER
May God grant to every one of us the grace to believe in Jesus, to rest in him and then to walk in the fear of the Lord all our days...
 —Charles Spurgeon

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
