Another Thing Than It Was Befpre

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

You gave me your salvation's shield;
I am upheld by your right hand.
Your gentleness has made me great;
you clear my way: secure I stand.
 —Psalm 18:35
Suggested tune: Abends (LM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News. This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.
.
—Colossians 1:5b-6

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Experience gives us a more intimate knowledge of things. While we know things by hearsay, we know them only by guess and imagination; but when we know them by experience, we know them in truth; as someone who reads of the sweetness of honey may guess at it, but one who tastes of honey better knows what it is: it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace... that is, knew it indeed, and by sensible experience. Our understandings are much advanced by knowing the same truths more through experience than we did before; it is a more satisfactory manner of knowledge. Someone who has traveled through a country knows it better than one who knows it only by a map. When we have tasted of the sweetness of the promise, and pardon of sin, and peace with God, and hopes of glory; when we have lived awhile in communion with Christ, or the love of his people, or walked with God in a heavenly conversation, it is another thing than it was before.

TODAY'S PRAYER
Help me to know not just of you, dear Lord, but to know you...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
