You Shall Love

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.

Grant God's justice to the orphan,
and the poor distressed defend;
free the destitute and needy;
save them from the wicked's hand.
 —Psalm 82:3-4
Suggested tune: Sussex (87.87)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Q. Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
A. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
—Luke 10:25, 27

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The question is legal and the answer is to the point. But let it never be forgotten that what the Law demands of us, the Gospel produces in us. The Law tells us what we ought to be and it is one objective of the Gospel to raise us to that condition.
 —Charles Spurgeon

TODAY'S PRAYER
Almighty God, you have taught me through Christ that love fulfills your law. May I love you with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength, and may I love my neighbors as myself; through Jesus Christ...
 —Lutheran Book of Worship

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
