Furnished with Helps

Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
He rules forever by his might,
on nations keeps his eye.
Let not the proud, rebellious ones
exalt themselves on high.
 —Psalm 66:7
Suggested tune: Glasgow (CM)

Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.
—Luke 10:23-24
Consider the advantages you are under to grow in the knowledge of divinity. We are under far greater advantages to gain much of this knowledge now, than God’s people under the Old Testament, both because the canon of Scripture is so much enlarged since that time, and also because evangelical truths are now so much more plainly revealed. So that common folk are now in some respects under advantages to know more than the greatest prophets were then. We are in some respects under far greater advantages for gaining knowledge, now in these latter ages of the church, even than Christians were formerly—especially by reason of the art of printing, of which God has given us the benefit, whereby Bibles and other books of divinity are exceedingly multiplied, and persons may now be furnished with helps for the obtaining of Christian knowledge, at a much easier and cheaper rate than they formerly could.
 —Jonathan Edwards (alt.)
Forgive me, God, for taking for granted all the resources available to me for understanding your word and connecting with other Christians. And forgive me for the much greater sin of failing to take advantage of these incredible gifts; in Jesus' Name...
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
