A Happy Meeting

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
O all the earth, in joyful shouts,
to God your voices raise;
and sing the glory of his Name,
and glorious make his praise!
 —Psalm 66:1-2
Suggested tune: Glasgow (CM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, in your name even the demons submit to us!”
He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning.
—Luke 10:17-18
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
If we faithfully acquit ourselves, we shall another day return to him with joy; and we shall rejoice with him and he with us. Then will be the day when Christ, who has sown in tears and in blood, and we who have reaped the fruits of his labors and sufferings, shall rejoice together. And that will be a happy meeting indeed, when Christ and his lovely and blessed bride, and faithful ministers who have been the instruments of wooing and winning her heart to him, and adorning her for him, and presenting her to him, shall all rejoice together.
 —Jonathan Edwards

TODAY'S PRAYER
O Lord, to whom all glory and honor do appertain, make thy marvelous works known throughout the whole earth, so that the force of thy power may bring down thy enemies and ours. Further grant to us that we may be so settled by the afflictions which thou sendest unto us that we never cease to praise thy mercy and goodness, abundantly shown forth to us in thy dear Son, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer...
—Scottish Psalter, prayer for Ps. 66

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
