Commanded to Travel Light

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
O Lord, you will not leave my soul
consigned to depths below;
corruption you will not allow
your Godly One to know.
The path of life you'll show me;
with you is joy untold.
And pleasures that will have no end
in your right hand you hold.
 —Psalm 24:10-11
Suggested tune: St. Louis (86.86.76.86)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
With these words, Jesus sent his disciples out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal: 'Take nothing with you on your journey—no staff, no bag, no food, no money, not even extra clothing.'
—Luke 9:2-3
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Commanded to travel light and to be indifferent to people's opinions, the disciples are focused on repeating the works of Christ after him. Mature Christians do not huddle together for warmth around the love of Christ; they venture into strange and even hostile places to represent that love to others.
 —Eugene Peterson, Praying with the Early Christians
TODAY'S PRAYER
You are my strength when I am weak,
you are the treasure that I seek,
you are my all in all.
When I fall down you pick me up,
when I am dry you fill my cup,
you are my all in all.
Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your Name;
you're my everything, the beginning and the end,
you are my all in all...
 —Dennis Jernigan
YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
