Rain Which Soaks to the Root

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
Guard and protect my life;
save and deliver me!
O let me not be put to shame,
in you my trust will be.
 —Psalm 25:20
Suggested tune: St. George (SM)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands.
—Luke 9:44
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Thomas Watson said that "the word must not fall only as dew that wets the leaf, but as rain which soaks to the root of the tree, and makes it bear fruit." The miracles and the teachings of Christ bear witness to who he is. But it is his betrayal and death which resulted in the salvation of the world. How might this reality become part of my identity and bear fruit in my life?

TODAY'S PRAYER
May your word sink into my ears, O God, that it may become part of me, and that my life might bear fruit...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
