The Completeness of His Victory

Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
God has ascended with a shout,
the Lord with trumpeting.
Sing praise to God, sing praise, sing praise,
sing praises to our King.
For God is King of all the earth;
sing praise with skillfulness.
God rules the nations, God sits on
his throne of holiness.
 —Psalm 47:5-8
tune: Ellacombe (CMD)

Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
—Revelation 22:3-4
There is no intentional reference in the psalm to the ascension; but the thoughts underlying its picture of God's going up with a shout are the same which the ascension sets forth as facts—the merciful coming down into humanity of the Divine Helper; the completeness of his victory as attested by his return to where he was before; his enthronement in heaven, not as idle nor wearied, but as having done what he meant to do; his continuous working as King in the world; and the widening recognition of his authority by loving hearts. The psalmist summons us all to swell with our voices that great chorus of praise which, like a sea, rolls and breaks in music round his royal seat.
 —Alexander Maclaren
Eternal and gracious God, we believe your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to have ascended with triumph into your kingdom in heaven. May we also in heart and mind ascend to where he is, and with him continually dwell...

Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
