Present in the Spirit with His Children

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
The trees of the Lord
are all watered well;
great cedars high up
in Lebanon dwell.
There birds build their nests;
the stork makes firs its home;
On high rocks the badger
and goat safely roam.
 —Psalm 104:16-18
Suggested tune: Lyons (10.10.11.11)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.
—John 14:18
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
I do not need to insist, I suppose, upon the manifest implication of absolute divinity which lies in such words as these. I am coming. ‘Being absent, I am present in all generations. I am present with every single heart.’ That is equivalent to the omnipresence of deity; that is equivalent to or implies the undying existence of the divine nature; and he that says, when he is leaving earth and withdrawing the sweetness of his visible form from the eyes of humanity, ‘I am coming,’ in the very act of going, ‘and I am with you always, with all of you to the end of the ages,’ can be no less than God, manifest in the flesh for a time, and present in the Spirit with his children for ever.

TODAY'S PRAYER
How faithfully you keep your promises, God! Your presence drives out loneliness, your love banishes emptiness, your commands cure my aimlessness. Thank you for continuing to be with me in Jesus, through the Holy Spirit...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
