Open War with God

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
"In my concern for the poor being plundered,
for the afflicted groaning in despair,
now," says the Lord, "I will arise to save them:
I'll place them in the safety they desire."
 —Psalm Psalm 12:5
Suggested tune: O Quanta Qualia (11.10.11.10)

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
—Zechariah 7:9-10
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Orphans, widows, and strangers, we know, are under the guardianship and protection of God, inasmuch as they are exposed to [human] wrongs. Hence everyone who plunders orphans, or harasses widows, or oppresses strangers, seems to carry on open war, as it were, with God himself, who has promised that these should be safe under the shadow of his hand.
 —John Calvin
TODAY'S PRAYER
Give me grace, O God, to stand by the orphan, the widow, and the refugee, seeing in the face of the powerless the eyes of your Son whose promise is abundant life for all, not just for those who can afford it...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
