The Bond That Knits Us to Christ

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
Yet I'll not take my love from him,
nor break my faithfulness.
I'll not profane my covenant,
nor change my promises.
 —Psalm 89:33-34 (Tune: Capel CM)
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
—John 14:23
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The very life-blood of love is the treasuring of the word of the beloved One. There is no joy comparable to the joy of the loving heart that yields itself to the Beloved’s will. This is true of earth, where it makes the sweetest and choicest blessedness of our ordinary existence; and it is true of heaven, where it makes the liberty and the gladness of the bond that knits us to Christ.
 —Alexander Maclaren (alt.)
TODAY'S PRAYER
Forgive me God, that my idea of love is so shallow, so limited to my own feelings and emotions. Help me to see that your love is based not on feelings but on your choosing me before the worlds were born. May this assurance produce obedience, and may my faithfulness to you show others the nature of your love.

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
