According to Their Ability

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
At their request God sent them quail,
and bread of heav'n bestowed;
and from the rock, to quench their thirst,
the living waters flowed.
 —Psalm 105:40-41 (tune: Azmon, CM)
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
At that time prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them named Agabus stood up and predicted by the Spirit that there would be a severe famine over all the world; and this took place during the reign of Claudius. The disciples determined that according to their ability, each would send relief to the believers living in Judea;
—Acts 11:27-29
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
All people should consider that, however great they are, they owe themselves to their neighbors, and that the only limit to their generosity is the failure of their means.
 —John Calvin, Institutes 3.7.7
TODAY'S PRAYER
Take my love, O Lord, and multiply it as you did the loaves in the wilderness. Receive my service—hard and dry though it be—and through it provide streams of living water to my neighbors near and far...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
