They Crucified Him

video
CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
My God, my God, O why have you
forsaken me? O why
are you so far from giving help
and from my groaning cry?
 —Psalm 22:1
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them.
—John 19:16-18
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
There in God's garden stands the tree of Wisdom, whose leaves hold out the healing of the nations: tree of all knowledge, tree of all compassion, tree of all beauty.
Its Name is Jesus, Name that says Our Savior! There on its branches see the scars of suffering; see there the tendrils of our human self-hood feed on its lifeblood.
Thorns not its own are tangled in its foliage; our greed has starved it; our despite has choked it. Yet, look! it lives! its grief has not destroyed it, nor fire consumed it.

TODAY'S PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, as we kneel at the foot of your cross, help us to see and know your love for us, so that we may place at your feet all that we have and are...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
