The Love of Christ Urges Us On

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
I'm poor and needy, Lord;
please think of me, I pray.
My help, my sole deliverance,
my God: do not delay.
 —Psalm 40:17 (SM)
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them.
—2 Corinthians 5:14-15
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
When Paul says that Christ's love urges us on, he might mean it passively or actively:
  1. Christ's love for us is our reason to share that love with others so that they, too, might live for Christ.
  2. Our love for the One who died to set us free convinces us that our old selves have died with him and that we now live in and for Christ.
TODAY'S PRAYER
May I dwell in you, O Christ, and you in me, that you may be magnified in my mortal body, whether by life or death. In the common places of life may others see in me that which will remind them of you, my unseen Lord...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
