Obedient to the Point of Death

video
CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
How fervently I love the Lord—
my cries for help he hears!
So, all my life I'll call on him
who turned to me his ear.
 —Psalm 116:1-2
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross.
—Philippians 2:8
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Jesus divested himself of all his royalty that he might teach us humility. Most people prefer to live life to the utmost—in a proud, pompous way, disdainful of those they feel are beneath them. But here is Christ, who, when he might have discovered majesty, held forth naught but poverty.
 —Thomas Manton (alt.)
Where in my life might I be more humble?

TODAY'S PRAYER
Gracious and merciful God, for our sake your Son became incarnate and suffered death upon the cross. Give us grace to choose him as Master and King who for us was crowned with thorns and died in shame...

Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
