How Long?

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
In anguish to the Lord I cried;
the Lord then set me free.
The Lord's with me, I will not fear.
What harm can foes do me?
 —Psalm 118:5-6
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen?
—Habakkuk 1:2
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Afflictions teach us to pray better. Jonah was asleep in the safety of the ship but awake and at prayer in the belly of the fish.

—Thomas Watson, The Art of Divine Contentment (alt.)
TODAY'S PRAYER
Almighty and merciful God, more ready to hear than I am to pray, giving more than I desire or deserve; pour down upon me the abundance of your mercy, forgive me those things of which my conscience is afraid, and give us those good things for which I am not worthy to ask, except through Jesus Christ my Lord...
—A New Zealand Prayer Book (alt.)
YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
