A New Creation

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
I'll not be harmed by rising floods:
In you I hide in peace;
you keep me safe, surrounding me
with songs of glad release.
 —Psalm 32:6b-7 (CM)
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!
—2 Corinthians 5:17
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Genesis tells us that where creation is there was once a dark and formless void—in other words chaos. That's the origin of our metaphor chaos. So, if out of that unordered void God created all that is, what can God do with the disordered mess that our lives seem sometimes to be? But, in fact, if we are in Christ, God has already done something with us that we could not do for ourselves: God has taken our old self and made it into a new creation. In our everyday lives, let us therefore both seek and encourage evidence of the new creature—new ways of thinking, new acts of love, new ways of connecting who we are and what we do to God's love for us—that would not be possible if we had been left where we were.

TODAY'S PRAYER
Almighty God, by my baptism into the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, you turn me from the old life of sin: Grant that, being reborn to new life in him, I may live in righteousness and holiness all my days; through Jesus Christ...
 —Book of Common Prayer (alt.)
YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
