The Way of Safety

CALL TO PRAYER
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
From heav'n he took hold of my hand,
and lifted me as waters rose.
God saved me from my enemy,
delivered me from all my foes.
 —Psalm 18:16-17
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left.
—Exodus 14:22
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The picture of the crossing carries eternal truth for us all: The way of safety does not open till we are hemmed in, and Pharaoh’s chariots are almost upon us. It often leads into the very thick of what we consider to be perilous. It often has to be ventured on in the dark, and with the wind in our faces. But if we tread it in faith, the fluid will be made solid, and the pathless passable, or any other apparent impossibility be overcome.
 —Alexander Maclaren (alt.)
TODAY'S PRAYER
O God, my Rock, outside of you the waves are high and the winds fierce, but in you I have a haven—protection, peace, and blessedness. You are my shelter, defense, and exceeding great reward; in you I take refuge...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
