Eat What Is Good

CALL TO PRAYER
 Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
As I recall the past,
I consider all your deeds;
I think of all your hands have done.
I reach my hands to you;
my soul longs after you
as thirsts a dry and desert land.
 —Psalm 143:5-6
SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.
—Isaiah 55:2
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Along with God's invitation to all people, God also chastises us for lavishing effort and money on what does not nourish. How strange that we take more pains to continue hungry than to accept the sustenance which God provides. Christ offers free grace, and we spend our strength in vain toil to acquire what's worth far less than that which has already been offered. Though Almighty God offers bread for nothing, we are ready to spend a fortune on a stone. It's not the evil of unbelief, but the folly of unbelief which is the marvel.
 —after Alexander Maclaren
TODAY'S PRAYER
Help me to hear your call, Lord, and help me to respond. Show me where and how I am wasting my time and treasure on that which will yield no results; and show me the work I should do and the way I should go for Christ's sake...

YOUR OWN PRAYERS
 Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
