Claiming Heaven

Call to Prayer
Repeat and or meditate on this verse until your thoughts are centered on God.
I lay down, slept, and woke again;
the Lord sustains my life.
I will not fear ten thousand strong
surrounding me with strife.
 —Psalm 3:5-6
Scripture of the Day
Our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
—Philippians 3:20
Food for Thought
Similar to valuing earthly possessions less than the treasure stored up in heaven, claiming heaven as our homeland looks beyond the realities of the flesh for validation. But this affirmation is not otherworldly, nor does it give Christians an excuse to look for friendship only among the righteous. For to have our citizenship in heaven is to have Christ as our King—the very King whose throne was a cross, whose crown was composed of thorns, and who broke bread with sinners. To claim heaven as our home, then, is to see all persons as our equals, and the least among us as a beloved child of God.

Today's Prayer
Grant me to recognize in other humans, Lord God, the radiance of your own face...
 —Pierre Tehilard de Chardin (alt.)
Your Own Prayers
Allow the above to help guide your own confession, praise, thanksgiving, and/or petition.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
 —Matthew 6:9-13
