This Day the Lord Has Made

Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
—Nehemiah 8:10
This day the Lord has made; let us
be glad in it with joy.
Lord, save, I pray; O Lord, I pray,
send now prosperity!
—Psalm 118:24-25
Suggested tune (Azmon):
Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready; to her it has been granted to be clothed with fine linen, bright and pure—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
—Revelation 19:7-8
It is with respect to this her marriage-supper that the Bride, from the motion of the Spirit of the Lamb in her, says, Come. So that you are invited on all hands; all conspire to call you. God the Father invites you—this is the King who has made a marriage for his Son; and he sends forth his servants, the ministers of the gospel, to invite the guests. And the Son himself invites you—it is he that speaks. And God's ministers invite you, and all the church invites you; and there will be joy in the presence of the angels of God that hour that you accept the invitation.
—Jonathan Edwards
O Almighty God, you have surrounded me with so great a cloud of witnesses: Grant that I, encouraged by the good example of your servants, may persevere in running the race that is set before me, until at length, through thy mercy, I may with him reach your eternal joy; through Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
