The Living Fountain

CALL TO PRAYER
I will satisfy the weary, and all who are faint I will replenish.
—Jeremiah 31:25
PSALM
Let us give thanks now to the Lord
for love that never ends,
and for his works of wonder done
to women, children, men;
for he the soul that thirsty is
does fully satisfy.
With what is good, the hungry soul
he fills abundantly.
—Psalm 107:8-9
Suggested tune (New Jerusalem):
TEXT OF THE DAY
Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted.
—John 6:11
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Christ plainly showed that he not only bestows spiritual life on the world, but that his Father commanded him also to nourish the body. For abundance of all blessings is committed to his hand, that, as a channel, he may convey them to us; though I speak incorrectly by calling him a channel, for he is rather the living fountain flowing from the eternal Father.
—John Calvin, Commentary on John 6:11
MORNING PRAYER
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat;
come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.

With joyful lips we sing to you,
our praise and gratitude,
that you should count us worthy, Lord,
to share this heavenly food. Amen.
—Robert Kreutz
