Good Seed

CALL TO PRAYER
This time I have sinned; the Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong.
—from Exodus 9:27
PSALM
With our ancestors we have sinned;
we have done wickedly.
Our forebears did not understand
your signs in Egypt seen.
—Psalm 106:6-7
Suggested tune (Paris):
TEXT OF THE DAY
For “no human being will be justified in his sight” by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
—Romans 3:20
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
In the law, God is considered as reproving sin, and approving righteousness; in the gospel, as remitting sin, and repairing righteousness; and therefore the word of the gospel is called "good seed" (Matt 13:23), "the seed of regeneration" (1 Pet. 1:23), "the word of reconciliation" (2 Cor. 5:18-19), "the ministration of the Spirit" (2 Cor. 3:8), "the word of faith" (Rom. 10:8), "the word of life" (Philip. 2:16), "the power of God" (Rom. 1:16), that whereby "the righteousness of God is manifest" (Rom. 3:21.)
—Samuel Annesley (John Wesley's grandfather)
MORNING PRAYER
O Lord, there is nothing in me that can attract or hold your love. I have failed often, and cost you much. Forgive my bitter past, and make me beautiful in the beauty which you will place upon me. Amen.
—F.B. Meyer
