Love Never Ends

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
—Job 19:25-27a
Are you not all I have in heav'n?
None else on earth do I desire.
Though human strength come to an end
my flesh may fail, my heart expire
my heart's strength God himself will be,
my portion through eternity.
—Psalm 73:26
Suggested tune (Stella):
Love never ends.
—1 Corinthians 13:8a
When the other graces are out of date, love continues; and in this sense the apostle says that love is greater than faith, because it abides the longest. Faith is the staff we walk with in this life. “We walk by faith” (2 Cor. 5:7). But we shall leave this staff at heaven’s door, and only love shall enter. Thus love carries away the crown from all the other graces. Love is the most long-lived grace, it is a blossom of eternity. How should we strive to excel in this grace, which alone shall live with us in heaven, and shall accompany us to the marriage supper of the Lamb!
—Thomas Watson
Kindle, O Lord, in our hearts, we pray, the flame of that love which never ceases, that it may burn in us and give light to others. May we shine forever in your temple, set on fire with that eternal light of yours which puts to flight the darkness of this world; in the Name of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.
